Reinventing the Interview

The interview. It must be as old as language itself. We’re not sure who invented it the first time around, but we felt like it was long overdue for a reworking. Let’s face it: existing interview methods are time-consuming and labor-intensive, not to mention just plain inconvenient!
It really doesn’t matter whether we’re talking about hiring (the job interview), firing (the exit interview), polling (the opinion interview), investigating (the “just the facts” interview), or any other process that involves an interview. It takes a lot in today’s busy world to make interviews happen! Consider the ingredients. At least two (and many times more) busy people with lots to accomplish have to figure out a way for their schedules to collide with one another. Next, there’s the problem of geography – they have to figure out how to get in the same room, which is hard enough if they happen to be in the same city, but is even more complicated and expensive if they don’t. Then there are all the nitty-gritty details . . . how will the interview be documented? Will someone take notes? If so, will the notes make sense when it’s over? What about other people that need information about the interview? Voice inflections and facial expressions play a big part, or else we’d just be having a phone call! Video conferencing helps somewhat - at least geography is less of an issue (once each participant is at least next to the proper equipment with infrastructure hook-up). But video conferencing still requires that everyone be available at the same time! Not only that, but (inadvertently or not) an inappropriate question can be asked or a nuance of the response missed. Which brings up the question of consistency . . . how does an organization know that its people are asking the same questions of each interviewee? How will they defend themselves if a question ever is raised?
We’ve just scratched the surface here, but as you can see, interviewing as it is done today carries a lot of baggage. That’s why we decided to reinvent the process. The result? The “Virtual Video Interview™.” It’s so innovative and so new that we have a Patent Pending on the process! What is it? Let's start with what it is not! A Virtual Video Interview™ is not a teleconference or a videoconference. It doesn’t require that the participants be in the same room or even be available at the same time. It isn’t even really necessary for them to ever meet one another! What is it, then? Well, it’s a unique technology-based tool that is designed to replace many of the current types of interviewing. That said, in some cases, you may still conduct interviews . . . but only with those folks that merit investing personal time in – after reviewing a Virtual Video Interview™. In other cases, our clients have completely unchained themselves from the trappings of the traditional interview. Maybe you should, too.           Find out more.
